The Canadian Repair Café invites people to bring small items that need a little attention:
- electronics or small appliances (things like alarm clocks, lamps, kettles, toasters, radios, coffee makers)
- jewelry that needs adjusting, fixing (a broken links or clasp, chain too long/short, re-stringing of beads, or gluing)
- fabric items that need sewing, mending (clothes, teddy bears, camping chairs)
- small furniture item (like a broken chair or stool for example)
Volunteer fixers will be on hand to take a look, talk through what might be wrong, and see whether a repair is possible. The goal is to help people learn more about repair, reduce waste, and celebrate the skills and community networks that keep useful things in use for longer.
Please note: This is a demonstration only and repairs are not guaranteed. We may not be able to work on every item depending on complexity, parts, safety, or available time. Please do not bring large appliances, hazardous items, or anything that is leaking, smoking, or unsafe to handle. A waiver will be required to accept responsibility for any use of the item after repair. All items must be removed by the original owner at the end of the conference, regardless of working order.
Everyone is welcome, whether you have something to repair, want to learn more about repair, or just want to stop by and see in practice what the Convention is about
